Posted on June 12, 2013 at 9:00 PM Comments comments (25)
Please let all your Senior men know about the next senior men provincial training session this upcoming Sunday June 16th
Where: MGRP
When: 1:00pm - 3:30pm
Date: June 16

This training session will determine if there is enough interest in having a senior men's provincial squad this season.  It is imperative that we have at least 30 interested people attend this session.  If someone is interested but cannot make it for some reason please have them contact Jim Russell at [email protected].

We are relying on all our senior men to show their support otherwise Manitoba will go another year with a senior men's program.  The more provincial programs we can run the better rugby can grow in our province.

Provincial Programs

Hello ladies,I realize that with all this snow on the ground that everyone’s mind isn’t shifted towards rugby quite yet.  However Rugby Manitoba is holding indoor sessions where we can.  I apologize to those who may need to travel a little extra due to not having access to proper fields yet and limited space available to us for indoor use.

I would recommend that if you want to get involved in Provincial rugby that you contact the coaches and let them know your intentions.  We are having some good players come out so far but we need to have more.

The only way we can continue to provide provincial programs is by having the athletes there to participate.  Rugby Manitoba is committed to providing the programming every year as long as the interest is there.  We are unable to run a program without athletes and I ask you to please spread the word about our programs so Manitoba can be represented at the National Level.

Please contact the following coaches if you want to get involved as a player and for more info:
Chris Chapman -Senior Women Coachà[email protected]
Shawn Sarkonak-Under 18 Women Coach à [email protected]

Cheers,
Brad Hirst

U18 Boys Westman Regional Team

Posted on April 8, 2013 at 7:10 PM Comments comments (22)
I have heard from a few athletes, in the boys U18 category, that want to play PRC rugby this summer.

I would like everyone that is out there, playing in Westman, to have a chance to be a part of this program. With Sean Common as the backs coach, we have one of the best rugby minds in Manitoba at their disposal. I will obviously bring the average down, but these boys will still have a great experience, play some exciting, high-paced rugby, and if they want to - place themselves nicely for selection to the provincial U18 men's team that will be going to play at UBC in August!

There will be a low cost for what the athletes will get out of this program. The competition is in Brandon, and we will be giving the players from Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, etc. a big Westman welcome when we meet them on the field.

Please let all of your players know about this opportunity, and pass on my contact details so I can get the camps arranged properly.

Thank you in advance.

Sandy Donald

The Prairie Regional Championships will be held in Brandon, MB at John Reilly Field onthe weekend of July12-14, 2013.  The PRC is a regional rugby competition with U16 and U18 categories for both boys and girls.  Regional teams participating will be announced later, but they will hail from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and possibly the United States.

This is a great opportunity for athletes to develop their skills and to play rugby beyond the school and community level.  The players will be exposed to a higher level of competition and potentially identified by Provincial, National and University coaches.

Costs for the programs will vary, but the teams will do their best to keep costs minimal.  The birth dates and eligibility requirements for the age categories are as follows:

* All players will have to be registered through Rugby Canada for insurance coverage. *

U16 Girls & Boys – Must be born in 1997, 1998 & 1999
U18 Girls & Boys – Must be born in 1995 & 1996

The coaching staff contact information for each region is posted below.  If your son/daughter is interested in participating, you need to contact the staff from your respective region for more information.

If you have any further inquiries about the Prairie Regional Championships, please contact Brad Hirst from Rugby Manitoba at [email protected]

All the best and I hope to see many of our young athletes participating in the Prairie Regional Championships in July!
